Abby
Abby (she/her) is a double major in English and Philosophy. She is very passionate about learning in any respect, and she looks forward to helping other students hone their writing skills while also developing a greater appreciation for academic or creative writing. Outside of school, Abby enjoys watching movies, listening to music, reading, and writing.
Abhainn
Abhainn (ah-VEEN) (she/they) is a Creative Writing major with a minor in Outdoor Studies. Beyond the WORD Studio, they teach creative writing workshops focusing on relational connections between the writer and their surrounding environment (especially nature). This relational philosophy is woven through Abhainn’s own writings and influences their tutoring style immensely. Their main focus as a tutor is to nurture in students a self-confidence in their own, unique voices and to strengthen their ability to navigate the complexities of technical and academic communication tactfully. When they are not in the Studio, Abhainn can most likely be found hugging a tree, crashing on a ski slope… or on a bike or napping.
Alex
Alex (he/him) is a Philosophy major. He loves tutoring because it gives him a chance to discuss new ideas and help people express themselves. Alex loves to read about history, culture, politics, and food. In his free time, he’s usually trying to convince people to play pool or ping-pong with him at the student center.
Anni
Anni (she/her) is a Creative Writing and Psychology double major, with an Outdoor Studies minor. In addition to working at the WORD studio, Anni is the yoga coordinator for SluFlowProject (affiliated with the Lighthouse). Along with a love of intentional living, Anni also enjoys playing outside, skiing, running, singing, and dancing. Anni brings this energetic, intentional mindset to her work at the WORD Studio, emphasizing interpersonal connection and collaboration in her sessions. She looks forward to empowering her peers to write boldly, with individual styles and voices.
Colin
Colin (he/him) is a Creative Writing and Business in the Liberal Arts double major with a minor in French. He believes in artistic expression, in which his passions include reading, writing, and singing, among others. Colin likes to travel and feels inspired by new people, places, and scenes. Along with the creative arts, Colin enjoys being outside and walking during all seasons. Most days, you can probably find him on the Saddlemire Trail. Colin looks forward to leading students toward their expression and helping them find their voice at the WORD Studio. He knows that interpersonal connection will be rewarding and hopes that students will gain confidence in their communication skills.
Freya
Freya (she/her) is a Government major minoring in Economics. While her major is centered around political science in general, Freya is interested in international relations, history, and political economy. In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and being a part of groups and organizations on campus. Freya loves to travel and visit new places and hopes to pursue a career in international government. She is excited to work in the WORD Studio to connect with and help her peers, whether through government-related assignments or with schoolwork in general, and to improve others’ skills as well as her own.
Kelly
Kelly (she/her) is a Biology major and Education minor on the PA track. She’s a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and has two dogs, Cooper and Riley. Kelly is a huge bookworm and loves to cook.
Lexi
Lexi (she/her) is a major in Biomedical Sciences with hopes of fitting in a PCA minor. She plans to join a Nursing Practitioner program after graduation. She enjoys meeting new people and animals and is interested in anything relating to the medical field. She believes balance is key and fills her life with science, friends, and theatre. She hopes her science-based writing skills will help increase the number of STEM students who visit the WORD Studio.
Madyson
Madyson (she/her) is a History major with a PCA and Global Studies minor. She lives in the Habitat for Humanity theme house and is passionate about volunteering. Madyson spends her free time hanging out with friends, listening to music, reading a good book, and connecting with nature. She is grateful for this opportunity to work as a tutor and is looking forward to helping others become more confident writers and speakers while also improving her own skills!
Melanie (Mel)
Mel (she/her) is a double major in Art and English. She was born in Havana, Cuba, but was raised in Florida. She currently resides in the Artist Guild theme house and is a passionate creative who enjoys practicing art in many forms, be it drawing, writing, digital design, dancing, and more. In her free time, Mel can also be found with a good book in her hands, gaming, or listening to music. Through the WORD Studio, she hopes to help others take joy in writing, find their voice, and feel more confident expressing themselves. As someone who enjoys discovering new things about various topics, Mel also looks forward to learning from students as much as they do from her.
MinhAnh
MinhAnh (she/her) is a double major in Finance and Computer Science from Vietnam. Having spent two years studying in eSwatini and taking a gap year traveling before starting college, she developed an interest in promoting diversity and fostering intercultural communication. MinhAnh hopes to be a companion to her peers, especially non-native English speakers, on their writing journey, encouraging them to confidently express and explore themselves. Outside of academics, she delights in traveling, uncovering new corners of cities to find the perfect cup of coffee, and listening to new acquaintances' stories.
Nicole
Nicole (she/her) is working on her major in Government and minors in Gender/Sexuality Studies and English. She is most interested in using critical theories, particularly feminist frameworks, to analyze content in these areas. Nicole loves reading and writing and looks forward to both helping her peers and to learning about a variety of subjects she wouldn't typically engage with.
Nicole is studying away in NYC in Fall 2024.
Sam
Sam is a Global Studies and Multi-Language double major from Burlington, Vermont. He is a member of the crew team here at St. Lawrence, and in his free time enjoys mountain biking, sailing, and Nordic skiing. He hopes to make tutoring a two-way street of learning, where he learns as much as he teaches.
Sam is studying abroad in Vietnam in Fall 2024.
Shantaa
Shantaa (she/her/) is a Psychology and History double major with a minor in African American Studies. Shantaa would like to use her background with effective tutoring principles at the WORD Studio to assist her peers with their reading and writing skills to alleviate some of the stressors associated with starting or writing a paper. She is very passionate about advocacy and creating a comfortable and inclusive space for all her peers and clients. In her spare time, she enjoys nature walks, watching anime, and trying out new makeup looks!
Shantaa is studying away in Washington, DC in Fall 2024.
Sofi
Sofi (she/her) is a Global Studies and Government double major, with a possible minor in English. She is an international student from Venezuela, and she has spent time recently in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sofi loves to hang out with her friends, enjoy sunny days sitting on the Adirondack chairs, and definitely a good chocolate ice cream. When it comes to tutoring, she would like to use her non-native speaker background and encourage her peers to find their voices through their writing. She sees tutoring as an opportunity to connect with other people and learn from their writing styles.

Sunset
Sunset (she/they) is a Biology and English double major. They are very excited to share in the creative process with others and hope to help her peers grow into more confident writers while at the WORD Studio. An avid writer, she hopes to share her own experiences and learn from those of others. In her free time, they enjoy reading, listening to music, going on nature walks, and playing Team Fortress 2.
Tuana
Tuana (she/her) is a Data Science and Sociology major, with a minor in Arabic Studies. She is originally from Bursa, Turkey but also studied in Tanzania for two years. She spends most of her time serving in various student organizations such as Thelmothesian Society, Common Ground Connections, and Islamic Culture Club. She enjoys learning new languages, reading, and baking with her friends. She hopes to empower students, especially non-native English speakers, to communicate confidently by becoming a tutor at WORD Studio. She is excited to work with everyone and to welcome students with her big smile!
Zach
Zach (he/him) is a Government major with minors in German Studies and Communications. Aside from tutoring, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of The Hill News and is a Reporting Intern at North Country Public Radio, where he covers issues on democracy. He loves being around any form of writing, as he believes it's the closest thing we can do to being inside of someone else's mind, hopefully gaining understanding and perspective from it. He looks forward to helping students become more confident in their abilities, especially aspiring journalists and political science scientists.
