Collections List
Clara Cable Papers
The collection consists of approximately 30 small booklets organized by year in which brief diary entries or daily expenses are written. Also included are approximately 150 mostly hand-written letters to Cable from family and friends as well as papers relating to her work as a teacher. One primary correspondent is a cousin, Emma Howe, who resides in California.
Clark Family Papers
The contents of the collection includes correspondence, business-related documents, photographs and other paper ephemera of several generations of the Clark family. The contents are largely unprocessed but have been placed in archival folders and boxes organized by type of material.
Clinton County Collection
This collection contains exhibition catalogues, photo booklet of Lake Champlain, several articles and brochures and a map of French and English grants on Lake Champlain.
Coalition on Low Altitude Flights (COLAF) Collection
This collection contains notes, printed materials, fliers, brochures, newspaper publications and correspondence pertaining to Low Altitude Flights and COLAF. Included is material about the Innu (Naskapi or Montagnais) people from Labrador-Quebec who were fighting legislation permitting NATO forces to conduct low altitude training over their traditional lands.
Cocco Family World War II Letters
The collection consists of many letters written primarily by Nick and Robert Cocco to their mother Jennie in Philadelphia, NY. There are a few letters written by Paul Cocco to his mother, but the documents associated with Paul are mostly ephemeral; concert programs, flyers, post cards and the like. The collection also contains several diaries kept by Jennie Cocco, two of which are in Italian, and a number of letters and greeting cards written mostly by people other than her three sons. Newspaper clippings about the sons’ military service are also included.
Columbus Huntly Collection
This collection contains the correspondence of Columbus Huntly while he was serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. The letters discuss a variety of topics, from camp life and the progress of the war to Columbus’ military payments and the problems that may arise at home in Columbus’ absence.
Community Energy Services Records Collection
The collection consists of files related to the administration of Community Energy Services (expense reports, financial statements, insurance & IRS files, board minutes & reports, etc.) and files related to the various projects spearheaded by the agency. Also included are CDs of photographs, DVDs, videotapes and audio tapes of events, posters and other oversized material.
Comstock Adirondack Postcard Collection
This collection consists of approximately 3,000 postcards from the 1890’s through the 1950’s depicting scenes in the Adirondack Mountains region of New York State. It contains postcards by the major postcard publishers of the time as well as by significant known and unknown Adirondack photographers. It is especially strong in its images of geographical locations, and hotels. Approximately 30-40% of the cards have been posted containing messages of all kinds.
Comstock Patent Medicine Coll.
This small collection was donated to the university by Dr. Robert Shaw. Shaw wrote a history of the Comstock Patent Medicine Company of Morristown, New York. The collection consists of a copy of Dr. Shaw’s history, four metal printing plates used to print labels for the medicines, and a small container of pills sold by a competitor of the Comstock company.
Courtland Smithers Collection
The collection consists of genealogies of the families of Heuvelton, New York. Families which are included; Adrain, Allen, Backus, Blood, Breckenridge, Chaffee, Dexter, Dollar, Fifield, Fletcher, Giffin, Gray, Greeley, Hayden, Heuvel, Howard, Hudson-Bell, Hulett, Hutchinson, Johnson, Mayne, Partridge, Pickens, Remington, Ross, Ruddocks, Scott, Sheppard, Smithers, Snyder, Spooner, Thurston, Todd, and Woods. Individual genealogies included are: George Seaman, Captain William Ely Waffle, and Captain Bela Bell.
Cranberry Lake Collection
The Cranberry Lake collection consists of notes and files of an historical nature on a number of different subjects related to the Cranberry Lake area compiled by Canton writer and publisher Atwood Manley.
Crossman Brothers Correspondence
This collection consists of 62 original letters, most of which have typed transcripts. The letters date from 1862 through 1867. Most letters are written to/from Julius, Marcus, or Matilda Crossman. These letters discuss the state of camp life, how the soldiers are fairing, hopes for when the brothers plan on returning home, and the state of home life for Matilda.
Cuneiform Tablets Collection
Cuneiform is one of the earliest forms of writing, appearing in the Middle East around 3000 BCE. Symbols were impressed into clay tablets using a stylus. Many forms of cuneiform were developed by a number of cultures over approximately three millennia, until other forms of writing came into use.
Current: The Journal of North Country Action
Current, The Journal of North Country Action was founded in 1985 as an outgrowth of local dissatisfaction with the bias, low quality and frequent irrelevance of press coverage on issues of critical importance to Residents of New York State’s North Country. Conceived under the umbrella of a progressive coalition group, Current has evolved into an independent, non-profit publishing cooperative dedicated to providing commercial-free, reader-supported regional news and commentary on a bi-monthly basis.
Dairy Farmers Union Collection
This collection covers two organizations of which Wright was president: the Dairy Farmers’ Union of the 1930’s and the Farmers’ Union of the New York Milkshed of the 1940’s and 1950’s. Also included are personal papers and correspondence of Wright, copies of radio talks which he gave on WSLU, and secondary materials on the milk business. The University owns the literary rights.
Doolittle Weeks Collection
The collection consists of correspondence between Lelon and Betsey from 1873 to 1881.
Douglas Black's Dwight D. Eisenhower Coll.
The collection contains personal and business-related correspondence consisting of over 200 typed and handwritten notes and letters covering the years 1947-1968. Many of the letters and notes acknowledge gifts of books given to the President by Mr. Black, while a few discuss political issues policy questions. Also included are correspondence to the Blacks from Eisenhower’s White House staff, contracts, inauguration programs and other Eisenhower ephemera. Numerous copies of Eisenhower’s book Crusade in Europe, written in 1948, many of which are translated into Arabic, Hebrew, Danish, Polish and other languages, are included in the collection.
Dumas Seaway Photograph Collection
This collection consists of approximately 2,500 color slides (1 linear foot).
Slides show construction of St. Lawrence Seaway, Robert Moses Power Dam, and associated activities.
Dwight Church Photograph Coll.
The collection consists of over 13,000 negatives and some prints. The photographs are of businesses, farms, main streets of towns, local colleges and natural phenomena in most towns in St. Lawrence County and a few from the surrounding North Country area in the early to mid twentieth century. Most of the photographs are aerial views.
Dwight P. Church Photograph Collection
Dwight "Dippy" P. Church was born in Canton, St. Lawrence County, N.Y. in 1891 and resided there until his death in 1974. He owned and operated the $5 Photo Company for sixty years.
Ed Sanders Collection
Edward (Ed) Sanders is an author, poet, musician and environmental activist associated with the late years of the “Beat” generation and the 1960s “counterculture” movement in New York City.
The collection contains several of Sanders’ books of prose, narrative poetry and collections of individual poems in book and pamphlet form. It also contains several magazines, journals, broadsheets and vinyl record albums.
Edmund Wilson/William Fenton Correspondence
This collection consists primarily of correspondence between Edmund Wilson and William Fenton during the years 1957-1972. The 59 letters are concerned primarily with New York State Indians, for Fenton, the Assistant Commissioner of the New York State Museum and Science Service, was an expert on Indians who helped Wilson with the research for his book APOLOGIES TO THE IROQUOIS. The two were friends, however, so personal information on both men also is found in the letters. The collection is especially useful for Fenton's critical comments on Wilson's book and for his discussions of the various instances during those years of flooding of Indian land for power projects. St. Lawrence does not own the literary rights to this collection.
Edward H. Neary Papers
The collection contains (approximately 7000) documents written between 1874 and 1887. These include personal letters to and from Neary’s wife, sons and other relatives. The collection also includes his professional correspondence in his role with the Gouverneur Wesleyan Seminary, his work on behalf of Civil War Pension claimants, correspondence with clients in the local mining industry, and correspondence with many other local lawyers. A few photographs are stored at the end of the collection.
Emilie Clarkson Moore Lantern Slide Collection
In October 2017 John and Sondra Castle of Potsdam approached then Curator of Special Collections & University Archivist Mark McMurray about the lantern slide collection of Emilie Clarkson Moore that had passed through the family to them.
Emilie Clarkson Moore Lantern Slide Collection
The collection contains some 470 glass lantern slide images, most of which were taken by Emilie V. Clarkson (Moore) in the 1890s when she was an amateur photographer. Some of the lantern slides are images produced by other photographers. Also included are numerous medals awarded to Miss Clarkson at various domestic and international exhibitions she entered. Other materials in the collection include dozens of playbills, promotional photos and other memorabilia of the many theater shows Miss Clarkson attended as well as scrapbooks, portfolios, albums and loose leaf books of photos, papers, and cards. A few glass plate negatives are also included.
Eric Gill Illustrations Collection
The collection consists of drawings, prints, and monographs that are illustrated by British sculptor and engraver Eric Gill. The collection primarily consists of illustrations made for books, with special interest in illustrations done for Golden Cockerel Press books.
Essex County Collection
The collection contains a 1948 Guide to County and Town officials and a 1853 New York State Agricultural Society Magazine Vol. XII - supplement to the Report on the Survey of Essex County.
Ethiopian Manuscripts Collection
Collection of eight illuminated parchment scrolls and one illuminated parchment codex in Geez and Amharic, pertaining to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, from the late 19th or early 20th century. This collection was acquired in 1998.
Evans Manufacturing Company Records
Records in this collection include business correspondence, telegrams, invoices, orders, insurance papers and legal documents, as well as product catalogs, advertising proofs and testimonial letters from customers. Most of the records are filed by loose date ranges in acid-free folders, however the collection also includes one bound scrapbook containing documents similar to those in folders. It is worth noting that much of the correspondence from outside businesses to the Evans Company, whether typed or hand-written, appears on often elaborately printed letterheads that were popular in the early 20th century.
Fort Covington Collection
This collection consists of correspondence, a typed manuscript, galleys, maps, notes and photographs of Herbert Donovan's research for his book "Fort Covington and her neighbors: a history of three towns" - the three towns being Fort Covington, Bombay, and Westville. Also included are: several articles written by others on the early history of the area, a scrapbook of letters Donovan received when his book was published, memorabilia from local elections, memorabilia on different presidential campaigns, including booklets on several presidential candidates, (T. Roosevelt, Polk, Grant, Garfield) and 2 campaign songbooks, for 1892 and 1900.
Fort Drum Collection
The Fort Drum Collection consists of 10 folders of photocopied newspaper clippings and three folders of micellaneous material on the expansion of Fort Drum. These materials were assembled by Lisa Sizeland, a former student who graduated in 1987.
Francis "Red" Grandy Collection
The collection consists of a double-oversized scrap book featuring page clippings from the Stars and Stripes newspaper with photographs by Red Grandy. The clippings cover the years 1969 to 1983. Also included are twelve three-ring binders containing many photographs taken throughout Grandy’s long career. The majority of the photos are described by captions, some of which are on the back of the photos.
Francis Kip Letters
The collection consists primarily of correspondence between Frank Kip and his family while he was in California searching for gold. Also included are deeds, wills, abstracts, photographs, a diary, and genealogical information on the Kip family (Hendrik, Albert P., Henry deValcourt, and Benjamin).
Frank Family papers
The Frank family was a prominent Ogdensburg, New York family active in business and civic life for over 100 years. Julius Frank was mayor, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. The collection consists of ledgers, minutes, account books and photos of the Frank store; records of the incorporation of the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Trade, the Ogdensburg Improvement Company, and the New York Development Company; a property list of the Ogdensburg Realty Corporation, a biography of Julius Frank, information on the Ogdensburg Fairgrounds, Ogdensburg Maples, and on boxing matches in Ogdensburg.
Frank P. Piskor Collection of Edwin Arlington Robinson
The collection consists of the correspondence of Robinson, photocopies from the Syracuse University Robinson Collection, photographs, periodicals containing Robinson criticism, and correspondence of Frank Piskor concerning the collection. Also included were numerous books by and about Robinson.
Frank P. Piskor Collection of Robert Frost
The Frank P. Piskor Collection of Robert Frost is primarily the gift of Dr. Frank Piskor, augmented by donations by Robert McCausland and Lesley Frost Ballantine. In addition to first editions of all Frost’s books and most of the secondary works about him, the collection has a large non-monograph section consisting of correspondence, newspaper and periodical articles, manuscript poems written by other poets on the occasion of Frost’s death, stamps, medals, photographs, drawings, records, and tapes relating to Robert Frost and his family, and to his friends, the poets Philip Booth and Edward Thomas.
Franklin County Collection
The collection consists of photo book of Loon Lake House, booklets, flyers, and programs on various functions in the county, and a copy of an 1831 newspaper "The Northern Spectator". Also included is information on farming and agriculture in the county, the building of Salmon River School, and the St. Regis Mohawks.
Fred Rollins Postcard Collection
The Fred Rollins Post Card Collection consists of over 3000 of St. Lawrence County locales. The oldest postcards in the collection date to the first years of the twentieth century, and the collection includes postcards published up to 2000. Many of the images are of buildings in the county. There are also postcards for St. Lawrence County Railroads, and postcards with images of or advertisements for businesses located in St. Lawrence County. The postcards were manufactured by a variety of different companies.
Frederic Remington Collection
This collection consists of correspondence of Remington to various individuals (Poultney Bigelow, John Howard, Eva). Included are photographs, reference material and newspaper clippings relative to Remington. Also included is an extensive collection of magazines in which articles written and/or illustrated by Remington (Harper's New Monthly Magazine 1889-1902, Harper's Weekly Magazine 1886-1895, Collier's Magazine, Century Magazine). St. Lawrence University obtained this collection through purchase and gifts.
Frederic Remington Collection (D)
The Remington Collection at St. Lawrence University, numbers approximately 400 items. Remington's correspondence constitutes the most important series in the collection.
