Uprooted like so many things last Spring, the North Country Research Prize contest went forward this summer, and over the course of the summer we received a number of stellar submissions. The winners of the three categories were:

Adirondack Maps
In these Covid-ridden times, you may have wished for an Adirondack weekend, which depending on the day’s travel moratorium may or may not have come true. While it is beyond the SLU Libraries magic to make wishes come true, we have acquired a number of interesting Adirondack maps this autumn. Among them is a set “Map of Adirondack Lands” from the New York State Fisheries, Game, and Forest Commission dated 1896 that provides detailed information on the status of the lands in all of the Adirondack Park (in four maps). Melody Denny
Melody Denny serves as the Director of the WORD Studio and Peer Tutoring. She regularly teaches PCA/EDUC 225: Peer Mentoring in Rhetoric and Communication. Occassionally, she teaches a class in AI and writing.


Gwen Cunningham
Gwen Cunningham is the Science Librarian at St. Lawrence University. Gwen has an M.L.I.S. from the University of Rhode Island and a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She comes to SLU with past experience at Brown University’s Center for Digital Initiatives as well as the Providence Athenæum.
Gwen provides research assistance and support to both faculty and students. She is available to provide classroom instruction to the science departments on campus.

Carol Cady
Carol works with faculty and students in classrooms and in the science library’s GIS computer lab, offering instruction and assistance with spatial analysis and geographic information systems, and coordinates the overall selection and organization of the libraries’ geospatial data collections.
Carol has a BS and MS in Zoology from University of Massachusetts and University of Vermont. In addition to geographic information systems work, Carol has worked for many years as a field biologist monitoring bird populations in the Northeast.

Michelle Gillie
Michelle is responsible for collection development and acquisitions for the SLU Libraries, overseeing activities related to the evaluation, acquisition, licensing, and management of scholarly resources in a variety of formats. She has a BA in English/Writing from Edinboro University and received her MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh. Her professional interests include cooperative collection development, copyright and intellectual property issues.
