Research Assistance at Launders

Science Librarian Gwen Cunningham offers research assistance to help students find the best information available on their topics. Some ways she can assist students include choosing appropriate databases, developing search strategies, keyword selection, evaluating sources, using interlibrary loan to acquire materials, using RefWorks and generating citations, as well as answering any other questions you may have about our library resources. Gwen provides in-class library instruction as well as research support to faculty. Reference and research assistance services are available Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm with flexibility to schedule outside these hours.

New Microscopy Images at the Science Library

Image
Alstroemeria aurea by Jennifer Sciortino

Each semester, the St. Lawrence University community votes to select their favorite confocal microscopy images created by students in Jill Pflugheber's Biol 392 Research Methods in Fluorescence and Confocal Microscopy class. Launders Science Library has teamed up with the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery to create a revolving display of these stunning images in the library. All are welcome to come check out the students' favorite images!

Many thanks to Catherine Tedford, Carole Mathey and Jo Skiff for helping the library put together this exhibit of student work.

Science Writing Center

The WORD Studio provides specialized science writing assistance.  There are four science writing tutors--three BIO majors and one CHEM major--who assist in any science writing assignment from lab reports to presentations to posters to research papers.

Please note that the four science writing tutors no longer have drop-in hours at Launders Science Library for Spring 2022.  They have appointment-only hours in ODY 137, and these tutorials can be booked on our website here.

These four tutors took a course with the WORD Studio Director on tutoring, and are great at what they do.  They are: Thia, Adwoa, Emily, and Chyanne--read about them here.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us wordstudio@stlawu.edu.

New Photo Exhibit at Launders

Image

Launders Science Library is proud to host a selection of photographs from "Through the Narrows: Meditations on an Adirondack River" by Kristin V. Rehder. The exhibit features a selection of photos that were previously shown at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery in 2018. Rehder's black and white photos are an exploration of the East Branch of the Oswegatchie River. These ethereal photographs were captured using a vintage 1945 Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex film camera, many taken from the artist's kayak!

Learn more about the exhibit by reading the artist's statement and a feature story on NCPR by Dale Hobson.

Many thanks to Catherine Tedford and Carole Mathey for bringing this collection of photographs to the Science Library.
