The collection consists of letters written to Harvey and Edna by their children while in college and as young adults beginning to make their way in the world. Included are Edward's letters from San Francisco at the time of the 1906 earthquake. Also included is family memorabilia: photographs, memorabilia of Yale and Purdue, financial papers, and travel guides.
Collection Overview
The Noble family was from Gouverneur, New York (St. Lawrence County). Harvey H. Noble and Edna Wood Noble had three children: Katherine L. Noble, Robert N. Noble and Edward J. Noble (born August 8, 1882). Harvey ran a coal, wood and building supply business and served as an agent for the Rome and Watertown Railroad,. Robert attended Purdue University and studied engineering and Edward attended Yale. Katherine taught school in Weedsport and married Alger Conger. Both men were involved with the Lifesaver Candy Company and Edward was well known for his philanthropy through which several rural hospitals were built. Edward served as a member of the Board of Trustees at St. Lawrence University from 1934 until his death on December 28, 1958.
