Everyone is welcome to use the St. Lawrence University Libraries, however, borrowing policies vary by an individual's relationship to the University. See Borrowing Policies to find the guidelines for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and others.
Renewing a Book
If you need a book or other item longer than the original due date, you can usually renew it. Most books can be renewed twice, allowing students to use them all semester if needed. A book cannot be renewed if another patron has requested it.
You can renew items online using My ODYsseus, by contacting the ODY Service Desk at (315) 229-5451, the Science Library at (315) 229-5400, or visiting one of the libraries.
Reserves
Reserves are specific books, articles and other materials which faculty have indicated that students must read for a particular course. You can see what is on reserve for your classes through Find Reserves. Reserve materials are located at the ODY Service Desk or Science Library depending on the subject of the course. They can be checked out for short periods of time and must be used within the library.
Faculty information about putting materials on reserve for their classes can be found at Reserve Readings.
Laptops
ODY and the Launders Science Library offer laptops for 6-hour use by students. These laptops and/or power cords may not leave the building and may be renewed once. Patrons who wish to borrow a laptop and/or chargers will need to sign an Electronic User Agreement Form.
Laptops are also available to Faculty/Staff with a 4 day loan period. They are renewable 1 day before the due date for an additional 3 days should the need arise.
Laptops and/or power cords must be returned by the close of the libraries.
Overdue fines are $2.00 per hour for both laptops and power cords. If you borrow a laptop, you are liable to pay the cost of replacement or repair if it is lost or damaged. Damage charges will be assessed based on repair cost. Users may be charged a fine of $2,000 for laptops and $90 for power cords that are not returned.
For additional information regarding the Laptop Loan Program, please contact the ODY Service Desk (x5451) or Launders Science Library (x5400).
