WORD Studio: Pre and post tutorial worksheet
Worksheet: Meeting with a Tutor
As an SLU student, you’ve been given a lot of resources—from the WORD Studio to the Counseling Center. But it’s one thing to have the resources, and another thing to know how to use them. That actually takes skill. By filling out this worksheet before and after each meeting with a tutor, you’ll learn how to use tutors, and make the most of your time with that resource.
Alex
Alex (he/him) is a Philosophy major. He loves tutoring because it gives him a chance to discuss new ideas and help people express themselves. Alex loves to read about history, culture, politics, and food. In his free time, he’s usually trying to convince people to play pool or ping-pong with him at the student center.
Shantaa
Shantaa (she/her/) is a Psychology and History double major with a minor in African American Studies. Shantaa would like to use her background with effective tutoring principles at the WORD Studio to assist her peers with their reading and writing skills to alleviate some of the stressors associated with starting or writing a paper. She is very passionate about advocacy and creating a comfortable and inclusive space for all her peers and clients. In her spare time, she enjoys nature walks, watching anime, and trying out new makeup looks!
Shantaa is studying away in Washington, DC in Fall 2024.
Kelly
Kelly (she/her) is a Biology major and Education minor on the PA track. She’s a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and has two dogs, Cooper and Riley. Kelly is a huge bookworm and loves to cook.
Freya
Freya (she/her) is a Government major minoring in Economics. While her major is centered around political science in general, Freya is interested in international relations, history, and political economy. In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and being a part of groups and organizations on campus. Freya loves to travel and visit new places and hopes to pursue a career in international government. She is excited to work in the WORD Studio to connect with and help her peers, whether through government-related assignments or with schoolwork in general, and to improve others’ skills as well as her own.
Sofi
Sofi (she/her) is a Global Studies and Government double major, with a possible minor in English. She is an international student from Venezuela, and she has spent time recently in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sofi loves to hang out with her friends, enjoy sunny days sitting on the Adirondack chairs, and definitely a good chocolate ice cream. When it comes to tutoring, she would like to use her non-native speaker background and encourage her peers to find their voices through their writing. She sees tutoring as an opportunity to connect with other people and learn from their writing styles.
Sofi is studying away in NYC in Fall 2024.
Madyson
Madyson (she/her) is a History major with a PCA and Global Studies minor. She lives in the Habitat for Humanity theme house and is passionate about volunteering. Madyson spends her free time hanging out with friends, listening to music, reading a good book, and connecting with nature. She is grateful for this opportunity to work as a tutor and is looking forward to helping others become more confident writers and speakers while also improving her own skills!
