Interlibrary Loan (ILL) allows students, faculty, and staff to request journal articles and books from other institutions when they are not held by the SLU Libraries.
ILLiad is the system to place ILL requests.
You can log into ILLiad using your SLU username and password. When completing an ILLiad request, please include as much information about the item (author, title, publisher, date, etc.) as possible. You can also link directly to ILLiad from many databases, Discovery, or WorldCat to request articles or books that you find in searches.
Requests for articles can often be filled within 24 hours. Requests for books take more time, usually about three days, and occasionally a week or longer if the book is coming from a library outside New York. Borrowers are encouraged to place requests as early as possible, since delivery time is dependent on the lender’s distance and shipping method.
Other types of materials – films, microforms, etc. – can be requested; however, many libraries do not loan these items. It may take longer to find a lender, or it may not be possible to borrow them at all. Questions about tracking down materials unavailable through ILL can be directed to Michelle Gillie, Collection Development / Acquisitions Librarian, at mgillie@stlawu.edu or 315-229-5834.
There are no fees for ILL service, but there may be charges for materials that are lost or returned in poor condition. Due dates for materials that must be returned may vary as they are established by the lending institution.
St. Lawrence County residents who have a valid SLU Library card may also use our interlibrary loan services. Before placing an ILL request a community member must register for an ILLiad account.
