Ordering Library Materials
The Library Item Request form is the preferred method for submitting orders. Please include as much information about each item as possible (author, title, publisher, year of publication, etc.) and be sure to include your name and your department or program affiliation.
Each year the St. Lawrence University Libraries set aside a portion of our acquisitions funds for faculty selection. Faculty and staff may use these allocations to place orders for books, DVDs, and other library materials in support of their courses. When funds allow, we will also consider requests for materials submitted by students and others. Priority is given to items that support the curriculum and/or student research.
If you are requesting a purchase in support of a new course, please let us know. These items are not usually charged against departmental allocations.
The Libraries do not purchase textbooks or workbooks. Instructors who wish to make textbooks or workbooks available to their students may place personal copies on reserve. For more information about selection criteria and guidelines for the purchase of specific material types, see our Collection Development Policy.
Reimbursement for Faculty Purchases
The Libraries do not normally reimburse faculty members for materials that they have previously purchased. However, if you are traveling or working abroad and have access to international books that would be useful to students in your program, you can contact Acquisitions staff to request reimbursement for purchase as an option. Purchases that are approved for reimbursement must be submitted to the Acquisitions department along with a receipt.
