The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University is running an exhibition titled Paddle, Portage, Party!: Digitizing Photographs in St. Lawrence University’s Special Collections from April 7 to May 31, 2025. The show features Seneca Ray Stoddard and Edward Bierstadt photographs from the Adirondack Manuscript Collection (#32) and photographs of canoeing from the Vance Archive. Many of the canoeing photos are of a canoe regatta that was a part of commencement festivities in the 1930’s. Brush Gallery Director Catherine Tedford coordinated several student-led projects and internships that saw students digitizing these images, cataloging them, and creating the gallery show. You can find more about the exhibition at Paddle, Portage, Party! on the Art Gallery website, and see many of the photos posted at SLU Women’s Canoe Regatta.
