For a number of years now The SLU Libraries have acknowledged outstanding student work on topics related to northernmost New York, through the North Country Research Prize in the Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences.  Although the pandemic threw our usual timing askew, we have made our awards, and they go to:

  • William Beyer, “Milk Manifestations: The Dairy Industry’s Evolution Reflected in Northern New York” winner in the Humanities
  • Cole Weigartz and Kayla Edmunds, “Balancing the Trade-Off Between Green Energy Infrastructure and Wildlife Conservation” winner in the Sciences
  • Niamh Creedon-Carey, “Prison Reform, Resistance, and Reaction in New York’s North Country” in the Social Sciences

Congratulations to our winners—many of us in the SLU Libraries are long-time residents of St. Lawrence County and these papers give us an opportunity to reconsider the issues that affect and afflict the North Country from new and ingenious perspectives.
